The Cat's Travel Guide: Shih-Lin Night Market

*Why you should go to Shih-Lin Night Market?
Shih-Lin Night Market is the largest and most well-known night market in Taipei, especially with regards to food. And also it's the most popular point of Taipei's night life (beside drinking and clubbing) among visitors alike. You can get really unique taiwanese foods there, such as oyster omelette, giant fried chicken steak, tempura, bubble tea, oyster vermicelli, or fried buns. And of course, the most notorious Taiwanese goodie--stinky tofu.

*How to get there?
By Subway: To get there, take the MRT Danshui Line (the Red line) to Jiantan Station. The food court is located directly across the street from the station with the rest of the night market spreading out to the north.

P.S
The most famous food in Shih-Lin Night Market I recommend will be the Oyster Omelette. Here's how they make the Oyster Omelet (from wikipedia):

"The dish consists of an omelette with a filling primarily composed of small oysters. Starch (typically potato starch) is mixed into the egg batter, giving the resulting egg wrap a thicker consistency. Pork lard is often used to fry the omelette. Depending on regional variation, a savory sauce may then be poured on top of the omelette for added taste.

Spicy or chili sauce mixed with lime juice is often added to provide an intense taste."

If you're sea-food lover, and really want to see what taiwanese food tastes like,Oyster Omelette is definitely a dish you shouldn't miss.

The Cat's Travel Guide: How to get to Jiufen from Taipei??

*Why you should go to Jiufen?
Checking out the old street, eatting some special taiwanese food and dessert (Grandma Lai's Yuyuan) , hiking on the mountain (Mount Jilong, Xiao Jingua Peak), drinking chinese tea(City of Sadness Restaurant), and, of course, a Beautiful Valley View.

*How to get there?
By Train: From Taipei, take the train north to Ruifang Station. From Ruifang take the Keelung Transit bus from the bus stops in front of the train station (Wellcome Supermarket) to Jiufen. Be sure to line up across the road to go to Jiufen and Jinguashi. The bus trip takes roughly 15 minutes. The Price of the ticket will be 21 NTD during the week, 15 NTD on a holiday.
By Bus: You can take the MRT to Zhongxiao Fuxing station on the blue line and get off at the Exit. 1. Then take bus No.1062 (bus company is Keelung bus) to Jiufen. The bus ride is about 1 hour and the price of the ticket will be 90 ntd. Make sure you take the seat on the left hand side in the bus, so you will see the great valley view.

P.S
Remember if you still have sometime after you finish walking around Jiufen, also go check out Jinguashi. It's a newly opened park with a nice view of the ocean and mountain. When you're there, don't miss the Gold Museum where you will find more interesting history about Jiufen!!
